Why I Chose This Braid

When I started making leashes, I thought the hardest part would be picking the right colors. Turns out, that was easy compared to choosing the right braid. There are dozens of patterns out there — all with fancy names, all claiming to be “the strongest” or “the best looking.” But here’s the thing: not all braids are created equal. And if you’re putting your trust — and your dog’s safety — in a leash, you better make sure it’s more than just pretty.

I tried them all. Square braids, round braids, cobra weaves, fishtails… you name it. Some looked good, but didn’t feel right in the hand. Others were solid at first, but loosened over time. A few just didn’t hold up when put under real-world stress.

The braid I use today? It checks all my boxes. It’s compact enough to stay firm and tight through years of use, but still has just enough flex to absorb a little shock when your dog decides to hit the end of the line. It lays smooth in your hand, without any awkward bumps or pressure points, and it distributes force evenly so the cord doesn’t fray or fail under pressure.

I chose this braid because it earns its keep. Every strand pulls its weight, every crossover adds strength, and the end result is a leash I can stand behind. One that feels as good as it looks — and that won’t quit when you need it most.

Because at the end of the day, a leash isn’t just a piece of gear. It’s a bond. And bonds deserve to be built to last.
